Purpose & Design Philosophy
Edge Notes was built to provide a fast, distraction-free reference hub for systems engineers, Linux administrators, and software developers. Rather than relying on heavy client-side frameworks, tracking scripts, or third-party cloud APIs, the entire site is compiled into clean, static HTML5, CSS3, and dependency-free JavaScript.
Core Components
- Curated Technology & Release Digest (/news/): An automated feed collector written in Python 3 standard library polls a strict allowlist of upstream RSS/Atom feeds and the Hacker News API every 3 hours, sanitizing metadata and publishing both an interactive view and a JavaScript-free static snapshot (/live/news/).
- Edge Tools Workbench (/tools/): Four everyday engineering utilities—an IPv4/IPv6 CIDR Subnet Calculator, an RFC 8259 JSON Formatter, a UTF-8 URL/Base64 Encoder, and a Web Crypto SHA-256 Checksum Verifier—that run 100% locally in your browser.
- Technical Reference Guides (/guides/): Concise, standards-referenced articles explaining prefix arithmetic, cryptographic hash verification, and safe data encoding.
Architectural Separation
Application code and live feed snapshots are strictly separated. The web application is deployed as an immutable, read-only release archive, while periodic news updates are validated in a staging area and published exclusively under the /live/ namespace (/live/news.json, /live/news/, and /live/rss.xml).
